What's the Story?

SKELETON KNIGHT IN ANOTHER WORLD follows Arc (voiced by Brandon Johnson), a gamer who wakes up in the world of his online game—in the "body" of an armor-wearing skeleton! All Arc wants is to enjoy simple pleasures, but his power and skill catch the eye of the elf princess Ariane (voiced by Caitlin Glass). Thus begins Arc's journey to make some money and do some good in this world.

This wannabe comedy isekai would be generic but fine—except the constant use of sexual violence as shock value overshadows everything else. Skeleton Knight in Another World makes it clear that hurting innocent people is wrong. It's only the villains who rape, enslave, and murder innocents. Sure, heroes use violence, but it's only to stop bad people from doing bad things. The problem is, the show doesn't treat these issues with any nuance or sensitivity.

It's hard to appreciate any of the humor, (minimal) character growth, or (undeveloped) social themes. These things are upstaged by all the time spent on villains being evil before heroes save the day in the nick of time. And even after the baddies are defeated, the victims just...move on, as if awful things didn't just happen to them. There are definitely worse shows out there, but there are also certainly better ones.
