Super Why's Comic Book Adventures
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
In SUPER WHY'S COMIC BOOK ADVENTURES, the superheroes from 2007's Super WHY! pick up where they left off. Newest hero Power Paige (voiced by Delia Lisette Chambers) kicks off each episode by greeting Super You, the viewer at home. Each story focuses on one letter of the alphabet, and one problem that the Super Readers need to solve with reading skills. Viewers are invited to help the superheroes by searching for items that begin with letters, saying letter sounds out loud, or tracing the letter shape in the air. Whether it's Mr. More turning the "playful P's" into "pesky P's," or Eraser disappearing all of the people and things that start with the letter P, the Super Readers come together to save the day with the help of the viewer at home.
Is It Any Good?
Grown-ups of kids learning the alphabet and phonics skills will love this fun and engaging reading show. With comic-book visual style, upbeat songs, and mayhem caused by silly villains, kids will love Super Why's Comic Book Adventures as well. Each episode is made up of three short stories in a half-hour show, and has an energetic but not frenetic pace. The series does a great job of repeating the learning in different ways (e.g., on repeat viewing, kids may notice that there are a lot of objects starting with the focus letter hidden in the background, and lots of words in the dialogue that start with the letter too). Preschoolers and kindergartners will have a great time watching this show while getting ready to read at the same time.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about the teamwork that the superheroes use. How do they work together to solve problems? How do you help them solve the problems too?
Families can talk about the letter featured in each episode. Can we think of any other words that start with that sound? Can we practice writing that letter?
