What's the Story?
SúperEllas is a Spanish-language animated and educational series that tells the stories of successful Latina women who have made a significant impact in fields such as music, literature, and science. The stories unfold through the exploration of the past by the animated characters Nelly and Lucía. The series showcases the lives, work and achievements of the women portrayed.
Is It Any Good?
Educational and inspirational, SúperEllas entertainingly recounts the achievements and challenges of contemporary Latina women. The animation is vibrant and culturally resonant with the characters, featuring Latina icons such as the painter Frida Kahlo, actress Rita Moreno, author Isabel Allende, singers Celia Cruz and Selena, golfer Lorena Ochoa, and the first Latina in space, Ellen Ochoa.
In episodes of less than 15 minutes, the animated characters Nelly and Lucía dynamically explore the most relevant events of the featured personalities in their historical and cultural contexts. The script delivers motivational messages that affirm that it is possible to move forward despite adversity. The content is likely to be of interest mainly to girls, given the absence of male characters, who are included only when relevant to the biography. The inclusion of quotes from the protagonists adds depth to the narrative. The great achievement of SúperEllas is to stimulate interest in learning about the contributions of these characters and celebrating diversity.
