Swiping America
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
From the co-creators of We're Here, SWIPING AMERICA is a documentary series inspired by the use of dating apps to find love. Single New Yorkers Ashleigh Warren, Krishnanand Kelkar, Keson Lee, and Reagan Baker are adult professionals who want to find their soulmates, but aren't having a lot of luck finding love within their city limits. Together they travel to many other cities throughout the U.S. to meet folks outside of the Big Apple. Upon arriving in a new city, producers connect each of the participants with local matches via a dating app. After quick blind dates consisting of drinks and conversations, they each choose the person they want to go out on a date with. Throughout their eight-city journey, the four New Yorkers also take the opportunity to bond with each other.
Is It Any Good?
The upbeat docuseries offers the chance for viewers to watch four people embark on a unique, and mostly positive, dating experience. Swiping America isn't a game show, nor does it incorporate the gimmicks and drama that most reality dating series are known for. Instead, it creates a constructive space in which four likable single people of diverse backgrounds can be more introspective as they think about how to connect with others in the dating world. It also offers a voyeuristic look at how each of their dates unfold. But the best part of the whole production is the connection between the four singles who are on this journey together. Granted, there are a few contrived and awkward moments, and after a while watching them go through the process in each city gets a little tiresome. Nonetheless, the way they interact with their dates and with each other feels authentic, and you can't help but hope that they each find that one special person.

Families can talk about people finding their soulmates via media. How common do you think successful long-term relationships are from matches made on TV dating competitions or via dating apps?
Why were these specific single people selected to participate in Swiping America? Were they purposely brought together because of their different backgrounds? Their personalities? Their dating goals?
