What's the Story?

SYNDUALITY: NOIR is set in the year 2242 after a mysterious event occurred called the "Tears of the New Moon" wiped out most of humanity. Humanity fled underground and built bunker cities to survive. The story follows Kanata (voiced by Takeo Otsuka), a young mechanic who dreams of becoming a "Drifter." Drifters are pilots of large mecha suits that are used to protect humanity from the monsters that live outside of the bunkers. Kanata meets an android girl, Noir (Aoi Koga), who helps him become a Drifter.

This sci-fi mecha anime has a story that feels generic for the genre, but it's still a decent watch. Synduality: Noir probably isn't offering anything new: people in giant mecha fighting monsters and other mecha. Nonetheless, anime fans are likely to appreciate the show's fun aesthetic and action. The underground city and mecha robots have a bright futuristic punk/hip-hop aesthetic that matches the atmosphere of the show well. Each episode includes thrilling action sequences with lots of stylized combat and explosions matched to exciting music. The series also has a lighthearted goofy kind of vibe that keeps everything fun. Overall, this series won't stand out as anything particularly unique or special, but if you're looking for a sci-fi or mecha anime that offers some dumb fun and strong action give Synduality: Noir a shot.
