What's the Story?

TAMPA BAES is an unscripted series featuring members of the lesbian scene in Tampa, Florida. Cuppie Bragg is returning to the city after living in Orlando for a while. She's intent on reconnecting with friends like Summer Mitchell and Marissa Gialousis, along with other folks like Mel Posner, Mac McKenzie, Shiva Pishdad, and self-proclaimed power couple Haley Grable and Brianna Murphy. It's a small community, and everyone seems to know everyone, which leads to never-ending gossip and drama.

Is It Any Good?

Our review:
Parents say : Not yet rated
Kids say : Not yet rated

This formulaic series features the on-goings of a group of self-defined lesbians as they work on interpersonal relationships and party. Much of the drama is driven by the tension between the two dominant couples in the group, but a lot of it also comes from the romantic interests and dating lives of different cast members. Meanwhile, all of it eventually leads to gossip, arguing, drink throwing, and other common reality fare. While there's some discussion about lesbian culture and community, most of what Tampa Baes offers is contrived moments mainly intended for entertainment.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

  • Families can talk about unscripted TV shows. Does the drama that unfolds in front of the cameras happen naturally? Even though the cast doesn't have a script, what kinds of things are they expected to do or say?

  • Is Tampa Baes attempting to send a social message about lesbian members of the LGBTQ+ community? Or is this show simply designed to create drama for the sake of entertainment? Can a show do both?
