What's the Story?

Tattoo Redo takes terrible tattoos and turns them into incredible new body art. In each episode, participants come in with bad tats and bad stories, and one of five in-house artists fixes them with a new piece. The twist is that the new tattoos are chosen by the participants' friends or romantic partners, and they won't know what they're getting until after it's done.

There's a little thrill that happens every time a bad tattoo gets revealed--that's what this reality show is counting on, though the shockingly bad ones are rare. Otherwise, Tattoo Redo often feels like a missed opportunity. Though the art and creative decision making of tattoing is discussed throughout, the new tattoos themselves often feel fairly mundane. Plus they're essentially just drawing over the bad tattoos, rather than legitimately trying to turn them into something new.

  • Families can talk about tattoos. Do you know anyone with tattoos? How did they choose their tattoos? Are they happy with the choice? Why or why not?

  • What are some of the reasons people on the show got bad tattoos? How did those decisions effect them? How does the new tattoo change them?

  • What do the friends or loved ones consider when choosing the tattoo for someone else? How do the artists help them make those decisions? How successful are people in choosing tattoos for their friends?
