What's the Story?

THE ASTERISK WAR is set in a world where a disaster called the Invertia changed life forever. A new world power called the Integrated Empire Foundation took over Earth and existing countries, and a new species of humans called the Genestella were born following the Invertia. The Genestella have exceptional powers, and they duel each other for entertainment. The series follows Ayato Amagiri (voiced in English by Erik Kimerer), a new transfer student at Seidoukan Academy. Ayato is looking for his purpose in life, and to learn more of his sister, who attended the same school. He befriends Julis-Alexia (voiced by Kira Buckland) and other female students from the school like Claudia (voiced by Erika Harlacher). They become friends and train together to duel in the Star Wars Festival. Who will prevail?

This overall enjoyable anime is moderately adult. The Asterisk War features many duel scenes, which show fantasy violence, including some on-screen explosions and weapon use. Some blood is shown, but it's not too much gore and not upsetting. Though there are duels often, the fighting is nicely broken up with conversation and other plot points that show character development. Language is moderate and features some cursing, but the show is not heavily reliant on it. Claudia constantly flirts with Ayato, and it can get uncomfortable considering that Ayato does not seem to want to become involved with her. Claudia's positive traits include her loyalty and intelligence. Overall, the show is an enjoyable watch with a nice pace in storyline.
