What's the Story?
THE BALDWINS follows the day-to-day life of Alec Baldwin, his wife Hilaria, and their large, bustling family of seven children, along with two nannies, four dogs, and four cats. The series documents their life leading up to Alec's trial for involuntary manslaughter, capturing intimate family moments alongside public controversies.
Is It Any Good?
While this series provides a wild glimpse into the chaotic, yet mostly affectionate, world of this famous family, the only truly interesting component is the inside look as they navigate Alec's trial. Watching Baldwin, in his late 60s, try to keep pace with his young wife and children is surprisingly endearing, and their open, playful communication adds a refreshing levity to The Baldwins. However, it's sometimes glaringly obvious they're distorting their reality, as when Hilaria says her oldest started "really talking at 5 ½ months."
The series has also been criticized for serving as an insensitive bid to rehabilitate Alec's public image before his trial, without regard to Halyna Hutchins' loved ones. Indeed, despite repeatedly acknowledging the suffering of the victim and her family, they spend more time wallowing in their own pain in a somewhat tone deaf way. Still, the show will hold a certain intrigue for those interested in high-profile family drama.
