What's the Story?
THE BRAVE ONES thrusts viewers into the middle of Ilanga, a working class community fighting to retain its land. The residents are actively protesting to keep a greedy and corrupt councilman from evicting everyone from their homes, so that he can build a hotel and casino on the land. What he doesn't know is that the mythical Tree of Life is rooted in the town. When Ntsiki and her sister Funeka are both killed by local criminals, Ntsiki is reborn and becomes the chosen host of "The Brave Ones." She now represents an ancient, supernatural power that must protect the people of Ilanga from the evils of mankind. Will Ntsiki be able to fulfill her duty, or will she be blinded by her desire for revenge after such a tragedy?
Is It Any Good?
This show strikes an interesting balance between myths and realism. While The Brave Ones' main plot is centered around a mythical power, the characters experience truthful and relatable issues. The show does start off at a slow place, and requires viewers to pay close attention to how all the pieces of the story are connected, which can be difficult to follow. For teen viewers, it creates a lot of questions about the people's power, myths, and morals.
