What's the Story?
THE CONVERSATIONS PROJECT is a reality series that features successful members of the Black community gathering for food, drink, and stimulating conversation. Inspired by The Harlem Renaissance Salon of the 1920s and '30s, it features Black and African American artists, intellectuals, businesspeople, journalists, and other noteworthy individuals coming together for wine and a gourmet three-course meal hosted by journalist Elaine Welteroth, sports journalist Marc Spears, and Chef David Lawrence. During their time together, they discuss a range of topics that relate to the Black community and their individual and shared lived experiences as part of it.
Is It Any Good?
The fascinating series features members of Black and African American communities sharing their thoughts about different aspects of the Black experience from diverse points of view. Participants share ideas and informed conversations about topics that are uniquely relevant to Black culture and community, including the importance of Black hair, the use of the "N" word, the awarding of reparations, and acculturation, just to name a few. Throughout these conversations, the show also briefly introduces the gourmet dishes they are served, all prepared by Chef David Lawrence. Granted, some topics are clearly preplanned, and each 30-minute episode is heavily edited. But the conversations remain honest and unscripted, and the guests, distinctive, making The Conversations Project a satisfying way to listen to, acknowledge, and learn from a range of perspectives.
