The Dead Sea Squirrels
What's the Story?
While accompanying his dad on an archeological trip to the Dead Sea, Michael discovers THE DEAD SEA SQUIRRELS petrified in a cave. Curious, he takes the squirrels home, only to find they're still alive. Their bodies have been preserved in salt for 2000 years, and they are just as eager to experience the modern day as they are to retell old stories.
Is It Any Good?
The series combines a focus on comedy—which it executes very well—with an emphasis on Christian values while retelling New Testament stories for a new audience. The Dead Sea Squirrels is based on a series of books by the co-creator of VeggieTales, and maintains the tradition of teaching morals. This time, it's mixed with great gags, strange humor, and self-awareness.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about the messages in The Dead Sea Squirrels and its origins. Can they remember any of the lessons in an episode? Were they familiar with its origin story, as told by the squirrels?
Do you follow any religion? What do you think is the role of religion in someone's life?
If you could find any creature from the past preserved in salt, which creature would you choose? It's a nice idea, but do you think it's possible? Why or why not?
