Is It Any Good?

Our review:
Parents say : Not yet rated
Kids say : Not yet rated

Like many spy stories, this one is intense and isn't shy about its subject matter, showing suicide and miscarriage in the first episode. When The Eastern Gate is rolling, the suspense is very satisfying. But there's also a lot of downtime for Ewa and her fellow agents, making the series feel a little scattershot and strangely paced. Rather than really coming into its own, The Eastern Gate feels more like a comedown from, say, Slow Horses than a true knockout.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

  • Families can talk about spies. Who does Ewa work for? What is her mission? What makes her good at her job?

  • What sort of ethics or morals do the spies have? How does this help or interfere with them doing their job?

  • How much does it matter who is the hero or villain in spy series? Does The Eastern Gate give an idea of why the Polish agents need to spy on the Russians?
