The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
From the producers of 30 Rock (2006-2013) comes THE FALL AND RISE OF REGGIE DINKINS, a comedy that follows a disgraced football player and a has-been filmmaker as they work together to produce an autobiographical movie. Reggie Dinkins (Tracy Morgan) was a talented football player that was going to take his team to the Super Bowl. But when he's publicly caught gambling on himself, he's banned from the NFL for life. He lost his endorsement deals, too, so his ex-wife, agent, and business manager Monica Reese-Dinkins (Erika Alexander) works hard to get him any commercial gigs that he can get. To improve his situation, Reggie hires Oscar-winning documentarian Arthur Tobin (Daniel Radcliffe) to produce a movie about his life. Tobin, who's been teaching at the University of Maryland versus producing films thanks to a meltdown he had two years prior, wants to remain true to the process and allow the story to reveal itself. But as he and the camera crew follow the fallen football star and those he interacts with, including Monica, his fiancé Brina (Precious Way), his best friend Rusty Boyd (Bobby Moynihan), and his son Carmelo (Jalyn Hall), Reggie wants to take control of the narrative in order to make himself look good and eventually be inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame. It isn't the easiest partnership, but the two are hoping that the final cut will help them recapture some of their earlier success.
Is It Any Good?
This light-hearted series mixes odd-couple tensions within a familiar story about sports, corruption, and redemption. It's produced in a style similar to that of 30 Rock, and offers lots of dry humor, one-liners, and a fair share of physical comedy intended to keep the humor going. Meanwhile, the appearance of some familiar faces, including Ronny Chieng and Corbin Bernsen adds to the fray. If you like these types of ensemble comedies, The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins may be worth checking out.
