The First Snow of Fraggle Rock
What's the Story?
In THE FIRST SNOW OF FRAGGLE ROCK, the Fraggles are anxiously awaiting the first snow of the season, which signals the beginning of the holidays. The only Fraggle not looking forward to the winter milestone is Gobo (John Tartaglia), who is having writer's block when he tries to write this year's special "first snow" song. He leaves Fraggle Rock to retrieve a postcard from Uncle Travelling Matt (Dave Goelz), who sends him on a secret mission to "outer space" (aka the human world). In the human world, he meets a musician (played by YouTuber Lele Pons), and they sing a song together. His songwriting block lifts, and he returns to Fraggle Rock to celebrate the first snow. With a little help from Gobo's song, and a magical snow-making mishap, the Fraggles realize that the real magic of the holidays comes from being together with friends.
Is It Any Good?
Muppets are always fun, especially the varied cast of characters in Fraggle Rock. That said, the storyline of The First Snow of Fraggle Rock is a bit muddled. The message of "live in the present" seems like something better suited for an adult audience. Kids who love Muppets will enjoy the characters' usual antics regardless of the somewhat messy plot, and the ensemble musical numbers are super fun. Otherwise, the disjointed holiday special doesn't quite capture the magic of the season.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
In The First Snow of Fraggle Rock, Gobo talks about appreciating each special "snowflake" moment. Families can talk about how we can try to stay present in the moment during the holidays.
