The Golden Bachelor
What's the Story?
THE GOLDEN BACHELOR, an installment of The Bachelor franchise, features a single man in his sunset years looking for love on a reality show. Hosted by Jesse Palmer, the show stars 72-year-old Gerry Turner, who's ready to find a love match six years after his wife passed. After meeting the 22 hopeful women between the ages of 60 and 75, he selects the ones who will remain at the mansion. As he spends time getting to know them individually and going on dates, he hopes to come closer to finding someone with whom he can happily spend his golden years.
Is It Any Good?
The unscripted reality competition features the expected drama the franchise is known for while highlighting the fact that it's possible for people to find love at any age. The women are all over the age of 60 and come from different backgrounds, but they're lively, energetic, beautiful, sexual beings. Gerry Turner also represents himself as a man in his prime. Granted, there's still some barbed behavior, but the emotional maturity that most of the cast exhibits gives the whole show a different vibe. Ultimately, The Golden Bachelor is a predictable dating show, but one that sends a more enlightened message about aging.
