What's the Story?

THE LAST ANNIVERSARY follows Sophie (Teresa Palmer), a single, 39-year-old woman, as she unexpectedly inherits a house on an island from her ex-boyfriend's great aunt. The family is suspicious but welcoming, until Sophie discovers that the house is linked to a decades-old mystery.

Based on a novel by Liane Moriarty, this Nicole Kidman-produced series has a lot in common with another Moriarty adaptation, HBO's Big Little Lies. Like its predecessor, The Last Anniversary focuses on the dynamics between a group of women, each of whom are linked to a mystery—in this case, the disappearance of a couple. The mystery is mostly backdrop to a patient, lovely drama that delves into the complexities of family, motherhood, and relationships.
