What's the Story?

THE LISTENERS follows Claire (Rebecca Hall), a dedicated English teacher and mother, who hears a constant humming sound. No one else seems to hear it, she can't go to sleep, and she has constant nosebleeds. Medical tests come back normal, and Claire drives herself ragged trying to find an explanation. When her student, a loner named Kyle (Ollie West), claims he can also hear the hum, Claire clings onto the hope that there might be a solution. But as she and Kyle investigate the humming, and discover others like them, Claire struggles to keep her career, family, and mind from unraveling.

This series is a slow burn down a rabbit hole of auditory chaos and conspiracy. The clever sound design of The Listeners paired with Hall's earnest, yet paranoid, performance creates a foreboding atmosphere. Although the show crawls through the mystery, viewers will be intrigued by the tension and scandal that unravel on the sidelines. The language, violence, drinking, and drug use makes this suitable for older teens.
