What's the Story?
THE POLYGAMIST follows family matriarch and social-media influencer Joyce as she discovers her husband's secret double life. As her marriage falls apart, Joyce must reconcile her private struggles with her public persona of idyllic wealth and blissful partnership.
Is It Any Good?
Though it takes place in South Africa, there are plenty of parallels with American culture in this series. The Polygamist portrays a version of affluent family life a la Desperate Housewives or Beyond the Gates. Family matriarch Joyce must reconcile the difference between her public persona as a lifestyle influencer and her private, crumbling marriage and duplicitous husband. It's just the right amount of over-the-top, with a sprawling cast of characters and short episodes packed with maximum drama. The series delivers precisely what it promises: a salacious look behind the curtain of wealth.
