HBO has a healthy track record for political comedy, which sets the bar too high for this show. Unsurprisingly, Kate Winslet vehicle The Regime aspires toward something like Armando Iannucci's Succession but lacks the satirical heft to really get there. Instead, The Regime just plays like a mild throne room drama with Winslet doing a funny accent.
