Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
THE ROAD is an original series following 12 contestants competing against each other for a performance opportunity at Stagecoach Festival, a cash prize, and a record deal. Keith Urban and Blake Shelton judge the singers (along with a variety of celebrity guest judges), who are coached by Gretchen Wilson, an American country music singer-songwriter.
Is It Any Good?
Though this show highlights its celebrity hosts, they aren't really the stars of the show. The contestants on The Road make The Road. Sure, listening to Keith Urban talk about how lonely it is to be a touring musician feels very "poor me." But if you focus on the backstory of the men and women who've been putting their heart and soul into their art and trying desperately to make a life out of singing and songwriting then it's an enjoyable show.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about which of the contestants on The Road, they like the best and why. What makes a contestant likable? Is it their personal backstory? The tone of their voice? The lyrical contents of their song? Does your family agree and have one favorite or does everyone in your household have a different favorite?
What do you think the pros and cons of being a touring musical artist are? And what types of personalities do you think thrive in a touring environment? What comforts from home would you miss the most?
