What's the Story?

In THE SISTERS GRIMM, sisters Sabrina (Ariel Winter) and Daphne (Leah Newman) learn they're the descendants of The Brothers Grimm and are part of a magical, cursed legacy. Their New York City lives are turned upside down when their parents mysteriously disappear and they're sent to live with a woman in upstate New York claiming to be their grandmother. Everything about Granny Relda's world is a little strange and a little magical—her house, her "best friend," and most of all, the inhabitants of her sleepy small town, Ferryport Landing. Sabrina and Daphne learn that the characters from Grimms' fairytales are real, and they all live in Ferryport Landing. Before long, they're pursued by an enormous giant who's out for the blood of Englishmen (in this case, Daphne and Sabrina). Granny Relda (Laraine Newman) thinks that if they can learn the story of the giant, they might be able to figure out what happened to Daphne and Sabrina's parents. The giant kidnaps Granny Relda, so the sisters must decipher the books in her library to learn how to save their family. Will they succeed?

For kids who love fantasy and being a teeny bit spooked, this animated book adaptation is irresistible. The Sisters Grimm's masterful storytelling weaves together elements of classic fairytales, family relationships, and adventure perfectly. Ferryport Landing is a magical setting with surprises at every turn, and kids will love escaping into its world. Sabrina and Daphne are wonderful, strong female characters who have a special sister bond. While the overall story arc is serious, the gravity is broken up with plenty of humor and charm. Grown-ups will enjoy The Sisters Grimm too, making it a great watch for the whole family.
