What's the Story?

THE WALKING DEAD: DEAD CITY follows Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan) and Negan Smith (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) as they work together in a post-apocalyptic New York City. A few years after parting ways, Maggie locates Negan, who's living in hiding with a young mute girl named Ginny (Mahina Anne Marie), and demands his help to rescue her son Hershel (Logan Kim) from the notorious Manhattan-based survivor leader known as "The Croat" (Zeljko Ivanek). But the island, which has been cut off for years from the mainland, is filled with the dead and The Croat's gang members who live according to their own rules. Meanwhile, Maggie and Negan's relationship is contentious, given their unresolved issues. To make matters worse, Negan is being hunted by Perlie Armstrong (Gaius Charles), the strict and ruthless marshall of a new town known as New Babylon. Nonetheless, she believes that Negan is the only person equipped to help her.

Is It Any Good?

Die-hard fans will appreciate the way this narrowly focused Walking Dead spinoff reconnects them with specific characters and events from other installments of the franchise. Not surprisingly, it also features all of the suspense and horror the serials are known for. But those new to The Walking Dead universe will find it hard to fully grasp the significance behind some of the more subtle ways past cast members and present events come come together. Those more familiar with the original series may find this installment a bit tedious too, but The Walking Dead: Dead City is worth the time to explore the post-apocalyptic dead-filled world's most interesting survivors.
