A lot or a little?

The parents' guide to what's in this TV show.

Educational Value

Characters must solve problems as a group, and teamwork proves invaluable in that process. Even though it's fictionalized and animated, the series exposes kids to some of the sights and sounds of the Australian outback, including the climate and the native plants and animals.

Positive Messages

Kids see Blinky Bill use his imagination to create adventures for himself and his friends. They practice problem-solving skills and take turns rescuing each other from the chaos they find. The show reflects the childish joys of exploration and discovery, plus the value of friendship.

Positive Role Models & Representations

Blinky Bill is inspired by a desire to help his friends and neighbors, but his impulsivity often gets him into trouble from which he also needs rescue. Fortunately others pitch in to do just that. With few exceptions, the Greenpatch crew is a friendly, caring bunch of friends who help each other, and they learn from the mistakes they make.

Violence & Scariness

The characters find themselves in mildly perilous situations because of their adventures and occasionally get hurt. Some animals are threatening, like crocodiles.

Sexy Stuff

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that The Wild Adventures of Blinky Bill is a CGI series inspired by the book and '80s TV character of the same name, whose adventures are indeed wild as a result of his big imagination. Although mostly fun and fancy-free, Blinky's experiences sometimes bring him and his friends face to face with danger and perilous creatures like crocodiles, occasionally with an injury or two. The neighborhood villain causes some trouble as well, though it's usually quickly managed and overcome. These stories have strong themes of friendship, and some show characters making mistakes that teach them important lessons about responsibility and making good choices.

Blinky Bill is really good, 3D adaptation of the original series. The only thing is that sometimes it's hard to understand what the characters are saying.... Continue reading

What's the story?

In THE WILD ADVENTURES OF BLINKY BILL, a spunky koala named Blinky Bill (voiced by Cam Ralph) and his loyal lizard friend, Jacko (Akmal Saleh), turn their everyday tasks into epic imaginative adventures in and around their hometown of Greenpatch. It doesn't take much for Blinky's sense of wonder to kick in and transport them to a place where it snows in the Outback and superpowers are there for the taking, and that's when the fun begins! As they explore and discover new places and experiences, Blinky, Jacko, and their Greenpatch friends find there's always plenty to come home to as well.

Is it any good?

This outgoing koala is a bundle of joy to watch in this crisply animated CGI incarnation. Blinky has a nose for fun and a penchant for mild catastrophe, an altogether hilarious combination that is nearly as enticing to watch as an adult as it is for kids. The stories proceed at a clip that makes it impossible to get bored, and the colorful menagerie of characters run the gamut of personalities and likability.

Even with so much focus on the excitement of Blinky Bill's imaginative adventures, this series incorporates some decent themes that serve its intended audience well. Friendship is at the forefront, with Blinky and Jacko's relationship always central to whatever is happening and the two buddies complementing each other well. Astute viewers of The Wild Adventures of Blinky Bill will also see subtler reminders about being yourself, taking responsibility for your actions, and communicating effectively to avoid misunderstandings.
