A Lot or a Little?
What you will—and won't—find in this TV show.
The major focus of the show is on family and friendship. Building a new life as an ex-gang member, life within South Central L.A., and being part of a Latino community are also themes.
Positive Role Models
Julio Lopez is kind and good, but a push over. Michael has a hard time understanding the social and cultural changes that have taken place while he's been incarcerated, but he's trying.
The main cast is predominantly Latinx, but there are other racial and ethnically diverse characters.

Violence & Scariness
One scene shows a shooting but no one gets hurt and it's dealt with humorously. Julio Lopez uses sharp words vs. fists to fight, and Michael likes to threaten to hurt people.

Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that This Fool is a comedy series that addresses gang rehabilitation, but is really about the importance of friendship and family through the eyes of two cousins. Despite a few flashbacks showing some violent moments (including gunfire) and some occasional tough talking scenes, these moments are more funny than scary. There's lots of cursing, smoking (cigarettes and pot) is visible, and drinking is sometimes shown. There's some strong sexual innuendo, and references to Tesla, Fords, and other brands are made, but not in a commercial context.
Is It Any Good?
This funny series offers an honest portrayal of a relationship between two cousins who are both friends and foes. Julio is straightlaced and sometimes self-righteous, while the troubled Michael is trying to find his footing in a world that has changed while he's been in prison. The fact that both men do a better job of seeing flaws in the other rather than in themselves leads to lots of amusing tension and well-timed exchanges. Thanks to some solid writing, the series also manages to address the systemic economic and social challenges, and some of the cultural dynamics, that have specifically shaped their lives with humor. All of these moments are part of an overarching narrative that focuses on the importance of family and friendship. Nonetheless, it's the authentic way that This Fool tells this story that makes it worth checking out.
