This Is a Gardening Show
What's the Story?
In THIS IS A GARDENING SHOW, host Zach Galifianakis follows his personal interest in gardening to Vancouver Island farms and greenhouses, educating himself and viewers on the nuances and history of growing fruits and vegetables.
Is It Any Good?
Titles are often deceiving--this is less a gardening show than a series of lightly comic bits featuring the very charismatic Zach Galifianakis. The host introduces the series by talking about his own green thumb and interest in learning. But in practice the series seems more invested in potential memes than in actual knowledge. The tone is a bit as if Daffy Duck were hosting with Bugs Bunny behind the camera. Unfortunately, Zach is mostly riffing through the scenes, rather than providing the show with the type of strong writing that makes his Between Two Ferns such a knockout. He's often looking for easy bits, like talking poo-poo pee-pee when interviewing grade school kids. The series would likely benefit from more actual practical knowledge and fewer one-liners. As it is, it's more of a T-shirt than a gardening show.
