Toast of Tinseltown
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
THE TOAST OF TINSELTOWN is a British comedy series about a London-based actor who goes to Hollywood in hopes of a new life. Steven Toast (Matt Berry) is a respected 40-something thespian whose starting to feel that his acting career has stalled. After he loses a role to his nemesis Ray Purchase (Harry Peacock), he decides to leave London for California in hopes of getting the attention he believes he deserves.
Is It Any Good?
This British comedy sequel offers the same irreverent humor of the original series. Like Toast of London, there's lots of slapstick-type physical comedy and over-the-top characters. But despite bringing in some U.S. comedy greats like Larry David and Fred Armisen, Steven Toast's story never really fully falls into place. Yes, there are some funny moments, but Toast of Tinseltown falls short of being as good as the original.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about the difference between British humor and U.S. humor. What comedic elements are considered funny in the United Kingdom, but not so much in the United States? And vice versa?
Is Steven Toast's character more likable in Toast of Tinseltown than in Toast of London? Why?
