Toby’s Travelling Circus
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
TOBY'S TRAVELLING CIRCUS is a British animated series about the adventures of a boy named Toby and a menagerie of traveling performers. The 7-year-old ringmaster travels with his fairground and friends, including Momo the monkey, strongman Thor, and Jango the one-man band. Clowns Clara and Freddo, and acrobats Li and Ling, add to the fray. Bish, Bash, and Bosh, a trio of bumper cars, weave their way into the fun, too. Helping Toby keep it going is his mother, Delores. Living a circus life is fun, but when things go wrong, they they all have to work together to come up with solutions and make sure they put on a great show for audiences everywhere.
Is It Any Good?
The series successfully relies on a young boy and an endearing team of circus performers to teach lessons about problem-solving, teamwork, and friendship. It also shows how it's possible to work hard and still have fun.
The theme song -- which is played throughout each episode -- is catchy enough for children to sing along to. But it's the colorful characters and innocent humor that makes each teachable moment fun and appealing.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about the importance of teamwork. What kind of things do the members of the circus rely on each other for? Does Toby solve problems on his own? Who helps him?
Families can also talk about the circus. Have you ever seen one in person? What did you like about it?
