Too Hot to Handle: Italy
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
TOO HOT TO HANDLE: ITALY, a European spinoff of the Too Hot to Handle unscripted reality competition, features 10 single individuals with strong libidos attempting to temporarily remain celibate in order to win a 100K euro jackpot. The group of men and women travels to luxury accommodations in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic, expecting to take part in a (fake) reality series titled Love Hunters, which will allow them to engage in unlimited sexual exploits. Making it more exciting is their host, rapper Fred de Palma. But 12 hours after their arrival they meet Lana, their AI virtual host, and learn that they're on an unscripted series where they can win a communal jackpot of roughly $116K if they're able to refrain from any kind of sexual activity. The group members flirt, go on dates, and try not to get caught engaging in sexual exploits. But the cameras—and Lana—are watching, and the amount of cash the group will win is reduced every time someone breaks the rules. Some resist temptation; others can't or won't. But in the end, it's hoped that they take home some money and a more mature outlook on romance and relationships.
Is It Any Good?
The voyueristic unscripted series offers all the over-the-top behavior the franchise is known for as folks try to refrain from having sex while an AI machine monitors their behavior. Like its sister series, Too Hot to Handle: Italy participants are encouraged to think about developing a more mature approach to relationships that goes beyond casual, physical connections. But this premise is hard to take seriously, given that the cast of Too Hot to Handle: Italy keeps itself busy by flirting, competing for people's attention, and, of course, breaking the rules. If you enjoy the franchise, this one won't disappoint. Otherwise, there's no point tuning in.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about the popularity of Too Hot to Handle. Do people on the show really grow from the experience, or do they just play along for the cash and try to secretly break the rules for entertainment purposes?
Is Too Hot to Handle: Italy more risqué than the U.S. version? Or does it just seem like that because it's produced in another country?
