The fun series offers all the features of a property renovation show, but does so with all the over-the-top elements associated with drag culture. Trixie Mattel, who also appears as Brian Michael Firkus throughout the series, treats this like the serious business venture that it is. She also approaches the project with a desire to honor the history of the local LGBTQ+ community in Palm Springs, and to support her partner, who steadfastly stood by her as she built her own career. But Trixie Motel situates all of this within drag culture, incorporating its vernacular, campy humor, and creative, larger-than-life designs that reflect who Trixie is. It's a well-balanced and entertaining combination that's also artistically inspiring.
