What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy is a Japanese anime series (available subtitled in English) based on a young adult novel. It features lots of fantasy violence, including a few bloody and gory scenes, and lots of magical powers. There's some innuendo (much will go over young kids' heads), and occasional references to drinking too much.

What's the Story?
Adapted from a Japanese young adult novel, TSUKIMICHI: MOONLIT FANTASY is an anime series about a boy who is a called to a fantasy world to serve as a warrior, only to be banished. High school student Makoto Misumi (Natsuki Hanae) was summoned by a goddess of an alternate world to be her hero, according to a contract she entered into with Makoto's parents. But the goddess deems him too ugly for the role, and casts him out to Wasteland. There he must live among mythical creatures like dragons, witch doctors, and orcs. But this new place also gives Makoto magical powers, which he must learn to use to survive the monsters he will confront.
Is It Any Good?
The fantastical anime series (available subtitled in English) combines action, misadventure, and humor to create a narrative with lots of strange twists and vivid characters. As Makoto Misumi (Natsuki Hanae) navigates his way through the Wasteland, he enters into pacts with many of the creatures he meets so that they can share some of his powers and access his memories while being in his servitude. Some of these contractual connections lead to romantic (and subtly sexualized) relationships, which makes things interesting. But watching how Makoto learns to negotiate his powers along the way creates its share of entertaining moments. If you like anime series, Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy tells a good story, and is well-worth checking out.
