What's the Story?

UBEL BLATT is a dark fantasy anime based off the long-running manga series by Etorouji Shiono. It's set in a fictional empire called the Wischtech Empire. Koinzell (voiced by Yuuya Hirose), a young expert swordsman, and his comrades were betrayed by a group of people called the "Seven Heroes," and he sets out to seek vengeance while wielding the black blade, a legendary weapon. On his journey, he meets an unlikely group who join his quest. He and characters like Peepi (voiced by Hina Tachibana), a young stowaway whose life he helped save, and Altea (voiced by Hitomi Ueda), a tavern owner, come with him to battle his enemies and hopefully escape with their lives.

Our review:

This dark fantasy anime is best for those who have a stronger stomach. Ubel Blatt features excessive blood and gore in a medieval European setting. The storyline is relatively easy to follow for the uninitiated, although previous fans may be even more enthused by it. Each character's backstory is intriguing, and once viewers are hooked, they'll be eager to keep watching. The extreme violence and other aspects of the show, including language and sex, clearly make this a series for more mature audiences.
