Waco: American Apocalypse
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
In 1993, the ATF became aware of a Texas cult, the Branch Davidians, and their illegal stockpiling of guns and other weapons. Through a twist of fate, the Davidians were tipped off to the arrival of the ATF, and their leader, David Koresh, mobilized the community. After four agents and six cult members were killed, a standoff began that lasted months and ultimately took dozens of lives.
Is It Any Good?
This straightforward, detailed docuseries should satisfy those curious about the actual events of the Waco siege. Waco: American Apocalypse focuses heavily on the days of the standoff, so if you're looking for a cult origin story, this isn't it. However, if you're interested in the particulars of what went on during the 51 days between the first attack and the final massacre in Waco, they are explored here. Most compelling are the interviews with former cult members, some of whom were involved in the attacks; their words accentuate the human side of one of America's greatest (and most preventable) tragedies.
