A Lot or a Little?
The parents' guide to what's in this TV show.
What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Wild Croc Territory is a reality series featuring professional Australian animal wranglers relocating crocodiles in the Outback. It highlights the importance of respecting and protecting wildlife, and family is also a major theme. Rifles are visible (and sometimes shot), and there's lots of animal violence; on occasion dead animals are shown. One wrangler shows off his missing fingers. It contains some strong cursing.
What's the Story?
WILD CROC TERRITORY is a reality series starring animal wrangler Matt Wright as he captures and relocates salt water crocodiles in Australia's Northern Territory. Using his helicopter and working with other wranglers like Chris Wilson and Sebastian Robinson, he searches for crocodiles that have been seen in areas that are too close to areas populated by humans. The team sets humane traps, then safely transports the crocodile to a more remote location, or to his or someone else's animal sanctuary where they can be cared for if they are wounded. When he's not tracking and moving crocs, Wright spends time with his wife Kaia and his son Banjo in the Outback.
Is It Any Good?
The lively series features popular Australian animal wrangler Matt Wright and his colleagues doing one of the most dangerous jobs in the world. As he tracks, traps, and wrestles crocodiles to create a safer environment for them and for humans, Wright also highlights the fact that the animals should both be respected and understood. Granted, some of the scenes feel a bit staged for the cameras, especially when his wife and son are present. But watching the cast struggle with the ferocious reptiles and other dangerous animals can feel a little harrowing, especially when the wranglers have to enter the water or find ways to safely subdue them. If you like wildlife shows, Wild Croc Territory will be sure to entertain.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about animal wranglers. Relocating crocodiles and other ferocious animals is extremely dangerous, so why do people spend their lives doing it? What training do you have to have to do it safely?
What does Wild Croc Territory want viewers to know about crocodiles? How does the way the wranglers talk about and treat them compare with the way crocodiles are portrayed in other media, like children's books and nature and wildlife-themed TV shows?
