Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
WITCH WATCH follows the daily hijinks of witch-in-training Nico (voiced in English by Lily Ki) and her childhood friend-turned-bodyguard, Morihito (voiced by Stephen Fu). When Nico returns to town, Morihito learns that it's his family duty to protect her from a prophecy of doom.
Is It Any Good?
This feel-good high school comedy is pretty tame but has some surprisingly good moments. Witch Watch's strengths are the characters and the themes. The premise of two teens living together could quickly become cringey, but this show does it well. Any hints of innuendo quickly dissolve in the face of teenage shyness and obliviousness. Nico and Morihito's interactions are actually more focused on themes of friendship, identity, and coming-of-age. Slapstick bits keep the show light-hearted while character moments add depth.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about belonging and community. Why do you think Class 3 is so accepting of Nico and Morihito's quirks? How can this community help them grow as people?
How do Nico and Morihito approach problem-solving? What makes magic helpful versus harmful? What about Morihito's ogre powers?
Which character(s) do you identify with? Why? What makes them an inspiring role model?
