What's the Story?
In WOLF KING, teenager Drew Ferran (Cel Spellman)'s life changes in an instant when he realizes that he is a werewolf. Forced to flee his home, Drew begins an epic adventure of finding his way in Lyssia. He learns that there are seven realms of different were-animals, like wererats, werebears, and weresharks. While the realms used to live peacefully, dictator werelion King Leopold has brought a violent regime into power. Drew befriends Whitley (Nina Barker-Harris), daughter of Duke Bergen (Paterson Joseph), leader of the werebears. She helps Drew navigate his new normal, and wereboar friend Hector (Chris Lew Kum Hoi) helps Drew learn to control his fierce wolf power. In time, Drew learns that he is not just a werewolf, but the wolf prophesied to save the realms from King Leopold. Drew must face this unexpected reality, and band together with allies to resist King Leopold's evils.
Is It Any Good?
Wolf King is an ambitious, sweeping, epic tale, and it does not disappoint. Its world and lore are immediately immersive, and kid and adult fantasy lovers will be happy to be sucked into the story. Main character Drew and his teenage friends manage to be both supremely brave and super relatable at the same time. Action scenes are intense and wildly entertaining, but characters' inner lives are explored as well. The plots, dialogue, and animation are all great, making Wolf King a perfect pick for the whole family to watch together.
