Yu-Gi-Oh! Sevens
What's the Story?
YU-GI-OH! SEVENS, the sixth spin-off of the popular Japanese Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise, features a preteen who wants to put the fun back in dueling. Eleven-year-old Yuga Ohdo (Hiiro Ishibashi/Bryson Baugus) is a smart, creative student who has invented a new set of dueling rules that he calls Rush Dueling, which is designed to allow players to duel the way they want. But Goha Enterprises, which strictly controls every aspect of dueling, will do everything it can to stop him and maintain the way duels have always been played. Nonetheless, Yuga is determined to find a way to make Rush Dueling available to everyone, even if it leads him down some unexpected paths.
Is It Any Good?
This installment of the lively fantasy action series, which is geared toward tween audiences, features the youngest protagonist in the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise. There's also plenty of youth-oriented humor and slightly toned-down fantasy violence. However, there are lots of details that younger kids new to the universe may find difficult to follow. Older fans might appreciate the show's overall narrative about rebelling against the establishment, but thanks to the different animation style and storytelling approach, chances are that Yu-Gi-Oh! Sevens won't be their favorite spin-off.
