What’s It About?
BEELINE READER is a web extension that changes regular text to a color gradient that guides a reader's eyes across a line of text and from the end of one to the beginning of the next line. It allows kids to transition between lines quickly and effortlessly by adding color to text-heavy websites. Users can turn this tool on and off depending on the site and adjust the colors to suit their taste. It also integrates with cloud readers giving kids access to more text options than the reader's built in features. Kids can also copy and paste text into pasteboard on the website to apply the gradient without downloading the extension.
Is It Any Good?
This visual reading tool gives kids another method to help them read more easily, though it's best to try before investing. More than 90% of users report an increase in ease of reading when using the color gradient provided by BeeLine Reader. No formal research has been published demonstrating long-term gains, but there are some less rigorous studies that show some potential to increase reading speed and proficiency when using this web extension, especially for struggling readers, which makes it worth a try. The colors keep readers on track from line to line and are especially helpful when reading on a mobile device such as a phone or tablet. Overall, though this tool doesn't offer instruction it does give kids a simple way to potentially make reading easier, so it's definitely worth trying.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about important reading strategies, especially as kids read more using a screen. In addition to utilizing the color gradient provided by BeeLine Reader, kids might also add their own highlighted interactions to interact with the text.
Talk about what you're reading. Connect with kids about their favorite characters and share with them some of your favorite details. What's the best part? Why? What do you think of that character's choices?
