CNN Student News an Indoctrination to Mass Media Violence

I am shocked that this was being shown to my 11 and 12 year old. we don't watch offensive news at home. Kids should get to be kids and not be instilled with fear if we can protect them against it. My son came home and said mom I learned about ISIS cutting off a 14 year old boys hand. He was very sad. Does CNN think it's a good idea to highlight how other kids their age are murdered? Our schools should be a safe and peaceful haven for kids to obtain an education,. CNN should stay out of schools.

Violence, war, politics, guns, suicide? NO WAY!

VERY little content for kids here. CNN just slaps a disclaimer on the front so you're on your own. In the three weeks that I've been previewing the episodes (incredibly, this is part of my child's 6th grade "geography" curriculum), I've seen graphic footage of: Syrian Civil War, Nairobi Mall massacre, Navy Yard shooting, 9-11, bullying-induced suicide, etc.
What isn't violent is often political, essentially teaching kids that US government doesn't work and that our country is run by angry, disenfranchised and accusatory children.
Yes, there are some worthwhile stories but they are few and sandwiched between killings, suicide and war.
In summary: It's not for me and certainly not for my child.

Middle School Teacher

I have been showing this program to my 7th and 8th grade Social Studies classroom for the last few years, since Channel One went defunct.

At first I was hesitant to show the program since it has "CNN" in the title, and I live in the middle of the Bible Belt. I should say I'm a conservative Christian, and I'm very sensitive to content inappropriate for kids. I have three kids of my own, and my wife and I are very careful about what our children are exposed to. I will say this, without any reservations, that CNN10 is the most kid appropriate true news program out there that is truly unbiased. After watching many episodes of CNN10, I realized that it's content and commentary is much less liberal than Channel One was. CNN10 literally has no agenda, conservative or liberal, which is truly refreshing.

I have caught some flack from some parents because the name of the program includes "CNN". I understand their concerns, as CNN is very liberal. But not CNN10.

I have asked my complaining parents if they have ever watched any episodes of CNN10, and they mumble around and say something like, "If it comes from CNN, it can't be any good." I suspect the same from the reviewers on this site who give it one star and say things like, "It's full of violence and has a liberal agenda. " Nothing could be further from the truth. CNN10 is truly the best unbiased news program available for students.

I've watched this since 3rd grade

It discusses war, politics, natural disasters, murder and suicide, but I (and my teacher) think kids should be able to learn about the world. And it doesn't ONLY include bad stuff. CNN Heros is fun to watch, and so is 10 out of 10. I understand some parents may not want their kids to hear about this stuff, but I think kids deserve to know. In fact, our class watches it, answers a quiz about it, and then writes 4-6 paragraphs digging very deep on certain topics. I'm in 5th grade, and the kids in our class are 10-11 years old. If it was inappropriate, my teacher wouldn't let us watch it. It's a great news channel (at least to me.) (I am a kid I don't know why I'm in an adult section.)

Good source of current events

I have been watching CNN10 with my 2 daughters (age 11 and 14) for several years now as part of our homeschooling, and I find it to be a good source for them to know about major current events. I often have them share what they learned from the show at dinnertime, so they get practice narrating what they have watched. I like how sometimes the show break downs big issues and describe the history and/or basics of the issue in a way that is easy to understand...like Brexit, what is an electoral college, etc... It helps teach geography, as it often shows a map of where the event is taking place. Also enjoy the upbeat special interest stories the show has been including more often. It is definitely less violent than a regular news show, and less depressing.

Does a great job!

CNN10 gives a very unbiased daily news for students. It is a great way for students to make connections about what they are learning in school to what is happening in the world in which they live. Glad students are watching the news!

Excellent way for kids (and parents) to keep up with world events

We learned about CNN10 from our 6th grade son, who watches it every day in his social studies class. Since starting to watch this in August, he is better informed about world events than we are! We have started watching as well, and it has prompted some really great discussions with our pre teen about everything from international politics, to climate change, to business. We firmly believe that current events should be part of middle and high school curriculum, after all, these kids will be building the society of the future, they should know what they're getting into.

Reporting on the demise of Venezuela, CNN 10 blames Oil prices collapsing - NOT SOCIALISM

CNN 10 Reports on Venezuela's demise and blames it on oil prices collapsing and recession. They do mention Hugo's socialist government at the very end, but never state that socialism has anything to do with the failure and inability of their economy to bounce back.

News for kids

Good take on the news, it helps me teach my kids what is going on, without it just being one-sided. Newspapers sometimes have too many details for kids, but this is very kid-friendly. Occasionally talks about Korea, and things like that which SOME may find to be "violent." I find them to be "reality." So what *I* do, is discuss with my children what the situations mean to us.

Polarizing news

I would rather have a news organization that wasn’t so biased to report news to our children. CNN has not reported favorable on our president or anything to do with my family’ Conservative values.

Not appropriate for 12 year olds to watch in school

Does not belong being watched in schools. Politics and trying to sway young ones while in school is not tolerable.

Innappropriate for Elementary students and harmful to the Democratic Party

The adult content and visual mind tricks are unbelievable! We have 10 year olds watching this in our schools on a daily basis. Why are these daily briefings created in such a way as to try to pull children, who don't even know what a tariff is, into the tantrum-throwing opinions of a few loud-mouthed democrats. I can't believe that those of us who still actually care about the democratic party are sitting still for this. These children will be voting in 7-8 years. Do we want puppets in as members or people who have grown up knowing the actual facts? For the first time, after growing up at the knee of my staunchly Democratic grandfather, I am embarrassed of the Democratic Party. We need to get our credibility back.

Suitable for older teen or college student

My son was watching this in 6th grade. All it talked about for the 2 episodes I watched was COVID. COVID vaccine, social distancing, college kids partying, doing the COVID test.. not appropriate for an 11 year old, these kids don’t need COVID shoved down their throats everyday at school. The parents are the ones who decide about vaccines, etc.

I was shocked to see what my child was told to watch

So I asked my principal about the CNN10, and her response was, “CNN 10 works with scholastics“ (which is also left leaning due to pandering to the teachers unions). “It’s great, centrist and informational”.
I asked her if I can see the link on my son’s school chromebook, app or however my son gets to it at school so I see exactly what he is watching.
Sure enough it is CNN10 which uses left leaning studies, scientists, data, and so on!!! I feel lied to by the principal and my son will NOT be allowed to see that, absolutely not-as they are indoctrinating my son and the other students.
How about he watch PragerU instead? I’m betting the school will have an issue with that just as I have an issue with their CNN propaganda.

NOT Unbiased

This is part of my children's Global Studies curriculum. BEWARE: It does NOT solely contain unbiased news stories. Focuses on liberal ideas and point of view. If our schools are going to make this part of the curriculum, they should also include conservative news and give the students opportunity to reflect on both sides of the stories. They should be teaching our children how to think, by developing critical thinking skills, not what to think, by forcing them to watch biased news stories, with no follow up or discussion on what they viewed. Unfortunately, there currently does not seem to be any unbiased media sources, so there must be balance.

What a left wing BIASED site! AVOID AT ALL COSTS if you want your child to learn about the news and politics

You got to be KIDDING ME. 10 minutes in to this site, and there were 6 anti- trump anti- republican articles. THIS is what schools are choosing for our children to learn about current events and news??? CNN is the devil.

Inappropriate

I do not let my child watch the news at home and I do not think its appropriate for the schools to make children watch it everyday. Teachers should be teaching these kids instead of sitting them in front of a TV.

My 6th grader is watching every day CNN in his Social Studies class and that is wrong

I was in shock to see CNN talking portraying my country Venezuela as is the people that were fighting for freedom were the one who created the problem and then say nothing wrong about the dictator narco president socialism/communism that we have every time they show my country. Later, I learn that CNN is own by Ted TURNER A SUPPER FRIEND OF FIDEL CASTRO ?? WE LEFT A COUNTRY THAT TURNED HORRIBLE BECAUSE OF SOCIALISM AND NOW SEE MY KID WATCHING CNN AT SCHOOL. THE REAL PROBLEM AND DANGER WITH IT IS THAT THEY ARE GROWING LEARNING TO SEE CNN AS A SOURCE OF AUTHORITY . THEY ARE INDOCTRINATING KIDS IN A VERY SUBTLE WAY SO WHEN THEY CAN VOTE THEY WILL BELIEVE CNN AS THE SOURCE OF AUTHORITY. WE NEED TO FIGHT AN ASK SCHOOL DISTRICTS TO TAKE CNN OUT OF SCHOOLS . BELIEVED ME YOU DON'T WANT TO SEE THE USA BECOMING ANOTHER VENEZUELA. WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!!
