What's It About?

Your Commonwealth, Where young minds can share ideas, is an international site created by young people for young people who are interested in addressing global concerns like injustice, poverty, and the environment. These young writers also contribute to Your Commonwealth's online newspaper, the Commonwealth Uth Daily, which offers daily content on global education, politics, society, and environment.

Is It Any Good?

Your Commonwealth is a great vehicle for young people to share the issues as seen through the eyes of a kid; this spin can make the more complex issues easier for readers to process. Some areas can be little visually dry, which lends itself to older kids who don't mind doing some heavier reading. As a supplement to a social science or history class, Your Commonwealth would be a useful classroom tool and its content can create valuable discussions.

While US-based kids can't submit articles or videos themselves (the United States isn't one of the 54 member countries of the Commonwealth!), there's still a lot to learn in terms of hearing the voices of their peers from all over the world.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

  • Families can talk about why some young people feel strongly about sharing their experiences with the rest of the world; this could lead up to a chat about the power of writing and filmmaking as tools for social change.

  • Families can share the history of the Commonwealth itself, and what it means for many countries to come together for a shared purpose of fostering knowledge and peace.
