What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that ABC Food is an innovative teaching app about different types of food, from fruits and vegetables to sweets. The app links to YouTube videos that are curated by the Peapod Labs staff and are chosen to be interesting and safe for kids, and there are also some foods that have interactive parts so kids can play with the foods. The app teaches the alphabet using images and videos and allows kids to jump to new words by tapping the letters.

Is It Any Good?
All of Peapod Labs' ABC Explorers apps have been a fun way for kids to learn their letters, but ABC FOOD adds a new element of interactivity. The app has a grid of letters and words, and each one reveals a food item and its name with a photograph. Tapping on any letter of the word will jump to a new word that starts with that letter. Some of the foods are accompanied by YouTube videos as before, but others let kids play with the food: chopping up a cucumber, for instance, or peeling an apple. It's a very fun way for kids to explore both the ABCs and foods.
The app is designed to be kid-friendly and is very nicely done, with a great selection of photographs and videos. It is extremely easy to use, so even very young children could learn to play with it, but the food play and videos will hold the interest of some older kids too.
