What's It About?
ASTOUND - VOICE AND SPEECH COACH provides users -- teens and adults -- an opportunity to learn about and practice specific exercises to speak more clearly. Users are prompted to read step-by-step through information and activities that include written content and narrated video demonstrations. The videos prompt participants to learn about their oral motor muscles, posture, and breathing as it relates to articulation, production, and clarity of their voice. An organized menu includes lots of additional exercises and activities to choose from to work through in sequence. After exercises, users can create voice recordings. These recordings remain in the program and can be used to help monitor progress in the sound quality of their voice. Daily reminders can be set to remember to practice activities consistently. The menu includes a 30-day challenge with exercises that are separated by various goals, such as boosting vocal power, one-minute voice boosters, and direct goals for articulation, pitch and tempo. Daily routines offer exercises and activities to complete during a coffee break, when getting out of bed, activities for early risers, and options for commuting.
Is It Any Good?
If a teen is having trouble with presentations or just speaking in general, this app might help. Astound - Voice and Speech Coach provides simple but interesting activities that could help older students and adults improve their body awareness, breathing, and mouth movements which may ultimately improve the clarity of their speech for communication. Users must be able to read, since a lot of the content is only text-based. This app is targeted for those looking to communicate more clearly and articulately, so it's not necessarily for everyone. But for those willing to work at it, it's an easy way to experience what a vocal coach session might look like. There's enough free content provided to help decide if you want to upgrade.
