What's It About?

To start playing BOGGLE WITH FRIENDS: WORD GAME, users enter an email address and then create a game. Several options are available for gameplay. In solo play, kids compete against the computer. Or, they can play live matches with others by searching for a Facebook friend or registered user. Kids can also choose to be randomly matched with someone or join online tournaments with groups of players. To win a match, a player must earn the most points after three timed rounds by creating words from a set of letters. Some letters are worth more points than others, and longer words typically earn the most. Power-ups include tokens and tickets that can be purchased or earned through gameplay and then used to gain advantages like highlighting words and stopping the clock.

It's great fun to play against others and strangely rewarding to find words among a random mix of letters, but the constant pop-up ads are annoying and somewhat disruptive. Beating an opponent in Boggle with Friends: Word Game as the clock ticks down will likely keep kids so fully engaged that they won't even realize they're learning new words and boosting their vocabulary skills.

The game is fun enough without the power-ups, but they do add a twist that can't be found in the original version. While ads are somewhat common in free apps, this game is particularly heavy with scrolling banner ads and pop-ups that completely cover the screen. This can be quite distracting for kids and may interfere with gameplay. On the bright side, no ads cover any letters during a match as kids are racing to create words. But it would be nice to see a reasonably priced version that eliminates all ads. It would also be better if the chat didn't allow open conversations with strangers. But overall, the game is a really enjoyable way for family and friends to challenge one another and perhaps learn a few new words to boot.
