A lot or a little?

The parents' guide to what's in this app.

Ease of Play

Car elements stick together when the user gets them too close to each other and can't be unstuck. Additionally, there are no instructions for users to consult if they are unsure what to do.

Violence & Scariness

Drinking, Drugs & Smoking

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Build A Car is an app that lets users create rudimentary vehicles, mixing and matching vehicle bodies with different wheel types. The creations don't do anything once they're built, though, and vehicle elements stick together when they're brought alongside each other -- and cannot be separated. Kids will get bored and/or frustrated quickly. An iPad-only version called Build A Car HD has the same issues.

i love it this is what my child can listen a look at an dit not be to violent or any sexual matter.

Is it any good?

Build A Car is a trainwreck. It is a buggy, uninspiring, slapped together piece of software that would be a waste of your time if it was free. As it stands, though, it's a waste of both time and money. The controls are sloppy. The magnetic qualities of elements is baffling (hover a wheel or another vehicle body over one on screen and they stick together and cannot be separated). And even if you do create a fun vehicle, all you can do is stare at it, then trash it and start over. This app is simply not worth a moment's consideration -- no matter how much of a vehicle enthusiast your little one might be.
