Cool Mad Libs

Common Sense Media says

Fun family word game improves on the classic.

What parents need to know

Ease of play

Very intuitive play. Younger kids might have trouble typing the words, but misspellings aren't important to this game and parents can always be in charge of entering the words that kids come up with.

The app itself doesn't present any iffy language, but players are free to input whatever words they'd like.

Privacy & safety

Very easy to send an email of a completed Mad Lib using your device's email program, which is handy, but kids could potentially email a Mad Lib to anyone in the devices contact list without consulting a parent so parents should use the device's parental controls feature.

Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that Cool Mad Libs is an app version of the classic Mad Libs game. It is perfect for family road trips and having interactive family experiences. As with the paper-based Mad Libs, the game encourages the use of silly words that can both encourage language play and easily spiral into potty talk or foul language (the game's request for the word for a "part of the body" is a lightning rod for this kind of thing). A similar app entitled Mad Libs is free, but it is very limited and players will see lots of teasers to purchase the larger game packs like this one or Goofy Mad Libs.

Is it any good?

COOL MAD LIBS is the digital version of the classic Mad Libs game, where players come up with nouns, verbs, and more to fill in the blanks in silly stories. It is brillliantly executed in a clear, intuitive format.  Parents and kids have more variety than the traditional Mad Libs, with choices like "silly word" and "animal" along with the usual "plural noun" and "adverb."  This paid app also has a "hints" button, which offers up multiple choices for each selection -- great for young kids still grappling with the parts of speech.
