The challenges get increasingly more difficult as you go along, but the increase is a gradual one.

Violence & Scariness

The adorable minion creatures can get burned, shocked, frozen, or otherwise zapped by high-tech obstacles. It's all very cartoony.

Consumerism

The app is a tie-in to the new movie, Despicable Me, though there's no hard sell for the film here, and you don't need to have seen the film in order to play.

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Despicable Me: Minion Mania is a puzzle-based adventure game featuring the cute, minion characters from the new animated film, Despicable Me. The plot of the movie and its other characters are incidental here -- this game is all about the minions. In order to help them find the pieces to their supervillain master's new mega-device, you'll need to help the minions navigate obstacle- and trap-filled rooms. Some of the traps will lead to the minions getting hurt, but only in cartoony ways.

Is it any good?

DESPICABLE ME: MINION MANIA is a top-notch mobile game and would be a fun and challenging puzzle adventure even if it had nothing to do with the 3-D animated movie. The minions make cute and endearing little protagonists, and the maze-like puzzle levels offer loads of brain-teasing enjoyment as users try to figure out how to best traverse them. Winning costume pieces to dress up and customize the minions adds a bit of bonus fun.
