What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Dora's Christmas Carol Adventure HD is an iPad app based upon an animated holiday special. The plot features Swiper the Fox, who is scolded by Santa for stealing presents and must travel through time (with friend Dora in tow) to make up for his past transgressions and get back on Santa's "nice list." Highlighted text makes it easy for kids to read along with the story. There are many little puzzles and games included as well, all of which are very easy to handle. Be aware that there is an iPhone version of the app for less money that is identical except for the quality of the graphics.

Is it any good?

Dora the Explorer's target audience should have no trouble getting into DORA'S CHRISTMAS CAROL ADVENTURE. The story, which mimics that of the holiday special, is simple and the interactive puzzles are easy. Even the message -- you should give, not take, on Christmas -- is quite simple. Since this app was created for toddlers and preschoolers: simple is wonderful. Anybody older than four may find the app too babyish, but parents who are looking to sit down with their toddlers for a cute and colorful adventure should be very happy with this well-targeted app. It's got a nice warm spirit to it and just enough interaction to keep little ones interested.
