A lot or a little?

The parents' guide to what's in this app.

Ease of Play

The book is easy to navigate, with a picture table of contents linked from each page. There are almost 100 sections, each of which has 1-2 pages of information about an aspect of the films. There is one "sneak peak" section included for the final film. The trailer for each movie is also included, as well as a slideshow for the first 7 films. Some pages include film clips to watch or swipe back and forth to play or pause mid-action. There are also 10 artifacts like the Marauder's Map to explore, but it can be difficult to enlarge these enough to see them well.

There are film clips and photos from the films that sometimes portray violence, including a student killed by Voldemort.

There is some discussion of making Bellatrix Lestrange look "sexy" and Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint teasing each other during their respective "snogging" (kissing) scenes. The book includes a video clip of Harry and Ginny kissing and a photo of Harry kissing Cho.

The app is a less expensive version than the hardcover version of the book on which it is based. In the table of contents there is a link to a store, with links to purchase several books as well as the movies.

Drinking, Drugs & Smoking

Drinks occasionally appear in the background of scenes, such as Fleur and Bill's wedding.

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Harry Potter Film Wizardry is an adaptation of the Brian Sibley hardcover book of the same name that describes the behind-the-scenes making of the Harry Potter films. There are over 100 pages of text, photos, film clips, sketches, and animated images. Some images portray violence or kissing scenes taken from the films. Parents should note the app's large download size and high price tag.

Awesome - Insightful Look Into the Making of the Movies!

Nicely crafted book for all Harry Potter fans!

Is it any good?

This beautiful book does a tremendous job presenting a lot of information while maintaining the magical feel of Harry Potter's world. A strong sense of community also comes through; the behind-the-scenes stories about special effects and transforming the characters are very focused on the people involved. There is some interactivity, with features like the Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes catalog and film clips that play, pause, and rewind as you swipe your finger across the screen. Some fans, though, may be disappointed with the inability to zoom in on features like the Marauder's Map to read and inspect every fantastic detail.
