What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Mad Chad is a side-scrolling game in the tradition of Mario or Sonic. Players control a cartoon version of NFL receiver Chad Ochocinco, who's chasing the people who stole his pet pigeon. Along the way, you'll hurdle over and slide under obstacles -- and tap enemies to make them disappear. The chase to recover the pigeon goes global, hitting Miami, Mexico, and Omaha. The enemies in these locations are stereotypical (made up of gangsters, luchadores, and farmers, respectively), but not offensive. The game also inserts dozens of fun factoids as it loads, ranging from the number of dimples on a golf ball to when Miami was founded.

Is it any good?

The first few levels of MAD CHAD will probably make you smile -- as a brief diversion from the day to day. By the time you get halfway through the game, though, you'll likely be bored, as it hasn't changed at all from what you started playing. The repetitive elements get old and you quickly realize there's no real point in collecting the coins you encounter on virtually every level, as they don't offer any real benefit. This is an average side-scrolling game app, but there are better options available.
