Ease of Play

The difficulty curve seems set just right, allowing you to get the hang of simpler challenges before adding tougher ones.

Your panda stands atop a tower and fires arrows at an onslaught of approaching enemies (from snakes to demons). Some of the enemies toss projectiles, like spears, at your panda as well. A regular arrow hitting a bad guy makes the enemy disappear in a puff of smoke. Tougher enemies take several shots to kill, though, and you'll see arrows sticking from their bodies. Also, you can power up to fire arrows (which set their victims ablaze), ice arrows (which freeze them in ice blocks), or lightning arrows (which cause them to be hit by thunderbolts). All of this is depicted in a very cartoonish way.

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that PANDAMANIA - BOW DEFENSE has a great deal of cartoony violence in it. There's no blood, but you will see monsters and villains burst into flame or get arrows stuck in their heads and bodies. Parents should also be aware that PandaMania offers the option to connect to the OpenFeint social network for app gamers. This social network could allow your child to friend and converse with strangers.

Is it any good?

PandaMania - Bow Defense is a classic example of the "tower defense" game subgenre. The player -- in the role of a warrior panda who is seeking out the villain who stole his Fu Manchu mustache (seriously) -- stands atop a wooden tower and uses his bow and arrow to fend off hordes of attacking villains. There's a great deal of variety among the bad guys (and the strategies you must use to defeat them) and some wildly entertaining boss battles as well. The ability to upgrade your weaponry and defenses after each battle is a nice addition to the gameplay. All in all, a super fun game for the price.
